Hangrypants: sponsored by Trader Joe’s (I wish)

TGIF! Who else is excited for the weekend?! Clearly I am. Actually, I’m just excited because it means I’m that much closer to going home. For six days. That’s cray! I can’t wait to be back sitting on the couch watching food network with my mom. Yes, I am that college student. We’ve been over this before.

I just wanted to share with you one thing before I go into the topic of today’s post. I should not be left alone in the kitchen. Ever. Check out what I did to myself last night:

this picture does not do the burn justice

Yes, I did pour an ENTIRE pot of boiling water all over my hipbone last night instead of into the sink where it belonged. It was not a good way to start out my night. Especially since I was feeling pretty hangry (see meaning below) after getting lost on my run after dark.

I was thinking the other day about how grumpy I get when I’m hungry, and how anal I am about eating my meals at certain times. I think my stomach is just really sensitive to when I’m eating because if I don’t eat for a long time, I literally get so tired that I can barely keep my eyes open. True fact. It happened yesterday in class while we were watching a documentary. And I swear it had nothing to do with the fact that it was the most boring video in the entire world. I really get sleepy and then I get a headache and basically when I’m hungry it’s a miserable situation for everyone. Just ask my parents. They like to eat dinner really late (like 8) and when I’m home the devil horns come out if the food isn’t almost ready by 6. I may be an old lady, but I can still throw temper tantrums like your worse nightmare.

I swear I’m actually a nice person 87.4% of the time. Just don’t let me get hungry. I’ve given you all a fair warning.

Since it’s Friday and I like doing Friday favorites so much, I decided to make today’s topic food (would you expect anything less?). Somehow this ended up being a little tribute to Trader Joe’s. I didn’t even plan that. I just was on a TJ’s kick this week I think…

Has anybody ever had this chicken? Seriously it’s the bomb.com. I could eat it everyday (and probably will when it gets too cold to go outside and grill my food myself. I usually HATE any marinade of any kind but for some reason, this rosemary and balsamic stuff is my jam!

Or sesame sticks? I tried these for the first time while I was seeing my nutritionist and she made me try a new food every week. I tried these and now I’ll finish at least 10 servings of them in one sitting. My stomach usually isn’t very happy with me afterwards, but I just can’t get enough of them! And TJ’s has the best ones. They’re nice and fat instead of the little stringy looking ones you find at other stores. I highly recommend them.

And of course I can’t go through my day without a little bit of chocolate in my life. The first course is in the form of milk so I can get my calcium.

Then second course is in the form of chocolate caramel. This is not my favorite. I really like chocolate and caramel but I don’t think I’m a fan of dark chocolate with sea salt. It’s just too salty. I felt like I was pouring salt down my throat. Not a fan.

No, I’m not endorsed by them to say any of this (I wish I was). I actually have a love affair with the stuff.

Oh, has anyone been to Fresh Market before? This place is like Whole Foods and Trader Joe’s on steroids. And right now they have a christmas display. Sometimes I go in there just to walk around, especially when I’m running late for class. I get sucked in and I can’t leave because this display is calling me.

I am actually in love with this place. Like so much it’s embarrassing. They have their own candy aisle that’s like an upscale penny candy store. And then they have buckets of nuts and trail mix and other “healthy” things (this is where I usually get my sesame sticks). My favorite thing to do is go down the rows of both the nut row and the candy row and just sample everything. It’s usually really awkward too because I have to subtly bring my hand to my mouth when I think the workers aren’t looking. I’m sure they know what I’m doing but it makes me feel better than I’m trying to be a good consumer.

Okay clearly I’m just on a sugar high right now (I’m looking at you, dark chocolate and caramel sea salt bar) trying to stay awake until it’s time to go to twilight tonight. It’s a good thing they moved the time earlier this year. I can’t stay up till midnight anymore.

What are you doing this weekend?

Do you ever turn into a hangry monster?

Oh my heavens, you poor thing!! I literally had to put my hand over my mouth when I read about your burn. I just couldn’t believe it & feel so terrible for you! Make sure to keep applying neosporin to the burn girl (wow, i just sounded like a mom haha).

I think it’s funny that you get on your parents if dinner isn’t ready by 6.. bc I’m the exact same way. My parents always eat dinner late, and i have just never been able to understand. It’s weird bc growing up they always ate around 6, and it’s like as soon as we moved out they changed the dinner time. Crazy people!

Thanks for worrying! It’s just kind of purple now so I’m alive.. called my mom and she keeps checking in on me :)
My family was the same way! I guess we always ate early because I had swim practice at 7 so now I just hate eating late!!

Ohman. Being Hangry is nothing to joke about. I’m happy and kind upwards of 90% of the time, but my Hangry get so intense … this (http://i.chzbgr.com/completestore/2008/5/24/angrycathungry128561353451224617.jpg) explains it best. ;) #noshame. Get in the way of my Hangry? I get violent. And will probably cry.
I hear ya on falling asleep. If I don’t have a snack before I leave work, I have 100% chance of falling asleep on the bus. I don’t ever test this theory anymore. It is verifiable fact.
And I have never, ever been so jealous of food in my life as I have been since I’ve started to blog and have seen all the amazing Trader Joe’s awesomeness. The good news is that it’s ONLY a five-hour drive to the one closest to me. And that’s not counting time spent waiting at the border. I am convinced that it will be worth the trip, I just need to properly plan. And save. Because I will literally buy them out. ;)
And that looks like a terrible burn!! Jeepers. Bet that it made you just that little bit more homesick. Getting hurt always makes me miss my Mom super intensely. And Mom dates with either the food network or Say Yes To The Dress make life better!!
    Hope you enjoyed Twilight!!

I love the link!! So true :) Trader Joe’s is one of those things that my mom and I used to drive an hour out of the way to go to at least once a week. It’s actually a problem. Now I can walk to the one at school so it’s a problem. But not really, since it’s cheaper than a normal grocery store.
It did make a little more homesick now that you say that… I texted my mom asking her what I should do and since then she has started calling or texting me every couple of hours. Twilight was really good (not embarrassed to admit it) and I’ll definitely be going again on Thanksgiving. It’s kind of a family tradition… Awkward.

Hahaha I am not exactly pleasant to be around when I’m hungry either. “Sorry for what I said when I was hungry” totally applies. I busted out an apple in the middle of an exam the other day cuz I was hungry and couldn’t wait. I mean who can think on an empty stomach? Not me!

The same exact thing happened to me in class yesterday! I had forgotten to pack my snack and i was NOT a happy camper. I’m definitely not proud of the person I become when hungry, haha. I’m so jealous you have a Trader Joe’s near your school. I can’t wait to go to mine when I’m home. Hope you have a great weekend!

It’s definitely not pretty when I get hungry, either. But that just gives me a nice excuse to eat more food :) Hope your weekend is wonderful too, especially since you’ll be home for break!!

Man oh man I get HANGRY! I still struggle sometimes with balancing when a snack will “spoil” my dinner and when I need to eat one to avoid that hanger. soemtimes I even get panicky when I get too hungry because it takes me back to my worst ED days and that’s just not a set of pleasant thoughts that I want in my mind. Probably why I get so cranky! Also, love me some TJ’s goodies. Thanks for the suggestions for that chicken and the sesame sticks!

I think you said it exactly right. It has to do with those anxious thoughts from the ED days. I used to freak out if I had to eat dinner really late because my parents would suggest I eat a snack and I didn’t want to add those extra calories. It freaks me out especially when I’m really hungry and I don’t want to eat a big snack because I know I’ll still want to eat a full dinner. You should definitely check out the sesame sticks, they’re so good :)

Too bad I have done the same thing with the boiling water (or hot pan) except silly me would be wearing a sports bra and shorts or a bathing suit. Hmmm, no wonder actual kitchens require closed-toe shoes and hair back. I might burn the place down :)

    Have a fab Friday!

Omg that burn!!! I hope it heals quickly!!

I’m glad to see you love Trader Joe’s as much as I do…I seriously have an addiction to that place. I probably would be addicted to Whole Foods too except I can’t afford anything from there haha :)
